While this does unfortunately leave a newsletter-shaped hole in my understanding of the research landscape, I agree with the reasoning behind it. Good luck, and I'm excited to read what's coming next! Any recommendations for substitutes in the meantime?
Thanks for the kind words. I haven't come across any similar aggregators that cover biotechnology (though there might be some in biopharma, which is a more developed area).
In a future piece, I'm planning to go over my process / what I learned about combing through scientific papers effectively. And I'll probably tweet papers more often to fill this gap in the meantime.
This makes lots of sense from a journalistic angle! A modest suggestion - a weekly discussion thread in the style of AstralCodexTen, where people can discuss interesting ideas, post new papers, etc.
One thing I feel the bio community is sorely missing is a central hub for exchange of ideas, and blogs like yours can serve as this kind of schelling point.
Terribly sorry to see this newsletter end, it's taken so much work off my (starting PI) shoulders. Just to mention, it's been so useful that I would be happy to pay for it. Have you considered options to make this work in the future without killing all your free time? E.g. founding / affiliating with a scientific society that distributes the newsletter for paying members? In any case, best of luck for your future endeavors; I'll continue with the essays as well.
I will dearly miss the newsletter but look forward to the longer essays. Thanks Niko!
Thank you so much and Happy New Year, Niko!

Happy New Year, Ashton. Thanks for reading.
There is nothing else out there like your newsletter! It was a pleasure to read though it.
The bio economy is our future and you brought that future right to our inbox.
I really appreciate you saying that. I hope the essays can spark a similar appreciation for our bio-future!
I’ve enjoyed your newsletter. Thank you. Best wishes for the new year, and I look forward to reading your future work.
Looking forward to it!
Exciting! I liked the existing format, but I’m even more excited by the new one. Can’t wait to read them.
This sounds great! Good luck!
