Recent subscriber to Asimov Press and really a joy to see this article, as my Ph.D. thesis was on gas vesicles (early 1970s). My only quibble is that the article did little to recognize the seminal work of Tony Walsby, whose scientific passion was to understand these structures, and constituted 100+ publications over a 40 year span of time.

Until today, I didn´t know after whom Aphanizomenon klebanii is named. This peculiar cyanobacteria caused massive fish-kill in Czech Republic but in the river! (30/6/2025)

Second last massive fish-kill in 2022 was atributed to Aphanizomenon flosaque. Gas vesicules and sticky filaments created unbelievable biomass ... "perfect storm"

And looking down to discussion? I see THE name I cited in my master thesis ... Diurnal vertical migration of phytoplankton in alluvial pools (1999).

And how I came to this web? By chance, searching some details about A. E. Walsby. This is Universe! Thanks to AP for beautiful article.

P.S. Dear Allan, do you know origin of your surname? My greatest salute to you from Prague, CZ
